With silk's remarkable temperature regulating properties it is the ideal fabric for newborns and is just so soft and delicate looking. Perfect as part of a Christening gown, naming ceremony or at a wedding. This is finely knit in two layers of 100% pure mulberry silk and the fibre has a lovely weight and sheen to it. Double thickness so it's lovely and warm in the winter too. A silk bonnet is a beautiful new baby gift - silk is said to be the perfect fibre for a newborn's head and it feels secure and muffles sounds to keep baby feeling the bliss of the womb.

The silk knit is very stretchy and accommodating so children up to around 3 years can wear the 62/68 size - pictured on a 3 year old.

The importance of a bonnet: A newborn babies head is relatively large compared with the rest of its body which means that the heat loss through the head is significant. A bonnet helps to keep baby's temperature stable. It also protects the baby from the surrounding noise of the environment. Washing: handwash in tepid water with a wool shampoo, dry flat in shade. Silk doesn't like to dry in the sun as it causes the fibres to go brittle over time.

Note on using machine wash: Wool washing programmes of washing machines vary massively, therefore we can not grant warranty for any damages. With regards to using your wool washing machine cycle always use cold. If you choose to wash at 30 degrees the machine will still rinse with cold water and this shock to the fibres can cause the wool to shrink.
