"Rich, ripe, almost juicy syrah with raspberry, black pepper, cranberry, dark chocolate and spicy oak flavours. An intense, firmly-structured wine that can be appreciated now but will reward cellaring for a few years" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Mar 2022
A supple spicy Syrah, this wine has lifted aromas of violet and pepper, and rich flavours of blueberry, plum and a dusting of cocoa. The palate is ripe and supple with fine tannins and a smooth fresh finish.
The fruit for this wine is sourced from a mature vineyard in the Bridge Pa district of Hawkes Bay.The warm climate and famous free drawing soils make this a superb location for ripening quality Syrah. 2020 was another outstanding vintage in Hawkes Bay, the combination of very dry weather through the season and moderate temperatures gave us fruit with small berries and great concentration.
The fruit was harvested at optimal ripeness and crushed to open topped tanks for fermentation. A combination of pump over, plunging and post ferment maceration ensured a gentle extraction of flavour and tannin. The wine was aged in tank and French oak barrels for 16 months before blending and bottling.
Food Pairing: Excellent with duck, venison casserole, roast beef and mushroom.
