COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the course, Promoting Independence in Disability Care. This program is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to foster independence among individuals with disabilities. By understanding and applying person-centred approaches, you will be better prepared to enhance the quality of life for those you support.

We begin with an introduction to promoting independence, where we define independence and discuss its importance in disability care. This section explores the benefits of promoting independence and the crucial role of caregivers and support staff in facilitating this process.

Understanding individual needs and abilities is fundamental for effective support. This section covers how to conduct comprehensive assessments, recognise strengths and capabilities, and set realistic and achievable goals tailored to each individual.

Person-centred planning is at the heart of promoting independence. You will learn the principles of person-centred care, how to develop individualised support plans, and the importance of involving individuals and their families in the planning process.

Enhancing daily living skills is key to fostering independence. This section focuses on personal care and hygiene, meal preparation and nutrition, and household management skills to support individuals in managing their daily routines.

Mobility and physical activity are essential for maintaining independence. You will explore how to assess mobility needs, train on the use of mobility aids, and encourage physical exercise and activities to promote overall well-being.

Effective communication skills are vital for independence. This section covers improving verbal communication, utilising augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and enhancing non-verbal communication techniques to support clear and effective interactions.

Assistive technology and devices can significantly enhance independence. You will learn about various assistive technologies, how to select appropriate devices, and provide training and support for individuals using these technologies.

Employment and vocational training are critical for achieving self-sufficiency. This section covers identifying employment goals, job readiness and skill development, and supporting workplace integration to help individuals gain and maintain employment.

Education and lifelong learning are important for personal growth and independence. You will explore how to access educational opportunities, adapt learning environments, and promote continuous learning to support individuals in their educational journeys.

Social and community participation enhance the overall quality of life. This section focuses on encouraging social interaction, facilitating access to community resources, and organising group activities and events to foster a sense of belonging and community.

Financial management and independence are crucial for self-reliance. You will learn about budgeting and money management skills, accessing financial resources and benefits, and providing financial literacy education to support individuals in managing their finances.

Health and wellbeing are foundational to independence. This section covers promoting physical health, supporting mental health and emotional well-being, and facilitating access to healthcare services to ensure comprehensive health support.

Behaviour support and management are essential for addressing behavioural challenges. You will explore understanding behaviour as communication, developing positive behaviour support plans, and implementing behaviour management strategies to promote positive interactions.

Monitoring and evaluating progress ensure that support plans remain effective and responsive. This section covers setting and tracking measurable goals, regularly reviewing and updating support plans, and using feedback for continuous improvement to enhance the quality of care.

Size down.
Size: 8 Long, Color: Iced Blue Light Wash
They are high stretch so I would size down from your usual size. I have bought size 10 in their brand and noticed the two previous I've purchased before this one were loose. So when I purchased this one I sized down and they fit good to me. I got long so they are LONG. And the regular would probably fit at your ankle or above. The only reason why I didn’t give it 5 stars was bc I don’t feel it mid rise to me it feels like high rise but I don’t feel them uncomfortable and also THEY ARE NOT SKINNY JEANS. They are straight leg and a tad bit loose so if you want stretch and skinny jeans these are not the ones for you. I only bought them thinking they were like the picture but it’s false advertisement.

Amazon Essentials Women's High Stretch Jeans
Size: 14, Color: Iced Blue Light Wash
Amazon Essentials Women's High Stretch Jeans receives positive reviews from me for their significant stretch, comfort, and flattering fit. The jeans are great for everyday wear, they feel soft and thick yet move well. Although some folks find sizing inconsistent, occasionally needing to size up or experiencing a slightly odd fit in certain areas. They're praised for looking good, offering good value, and being versatile enough for various occasions. Sizing can be hit-or-miss for some, but not for me.

These Are NOT Skinny Jeans.
Size: 18, Color: Medium Blue
Unfortunately, I'm having to return mine. I purchased these expecting to receive skinny jeans and these are not skinny jeans. These are a relaxed fit, straight leg jean. I'm not too sure about the stretch because they were so big in the leg, I couldn't really tell how well they do stretch. They feel like a nice quality jean other than the fit and they're comfortable around the waist.

Weird garbage
Size: 12 Long, Color: Iced Blue Light Wash
Very strange fit, saw the reviews about weird fit but so many others said great fit so that's on me. Got them for under 10 bucks so hard to complain..... however..... Got 12 Long. They are at least a size too big but I generally do that to accommodate shrinking especially length. On what planet these would be considered long I dunno. I'm only 5'8". If you pull them up to where crotch is not sagging, barely to my ankles. Almost long enough if you want the crotch to droop several inches. Fit loose but comfortable in butt and thighs. The waist however is about 4 inches too big and gaps horribly. Almost like waist is actually wider than hips. Strange. Not skinny cut except for right at ankle. The left leg inseam is cut horribly crooked and runs down almost front of leg so altering them is not worth the trouble. They are fairly thick and do stretch, like the denim wash very much. So disappointed. So the great deal I thought I was getting was garbage . Should have know for that price they were unloading their trash
