This pattern is taken from a design by the Haward Studio purchased for 24 guineas in March 1931. Sidney Haward trained at the Silver Studio and later set up on his own in Kensington, becoming one of the leading London design studios serving clients such as Liberty, Story's, Hamptons and other top furnishing emporiums. Taking as its principal theme the flowering branch and butterfly of Chinese hand-painted wallpaper, Persian elements have been added such as the erstwhile nightingale, pomegranate, and banded stems. Originally designed for printing by surface roller in twelve colours, the separation of colour is kept simple and well-defined.

ABOUT GP&J BAKER

GP & J Baker is renowned as one of the world’s innovators of fabric design producing luxury fabrics, wallpapers and accessories under licence for Mulberry Home.

The company was founded in 1884 by brothers George Percival and James Baker establishing an inheritance full of innovation and drama.  Avid and discerning collectors of rare and iconic designs, the brothers began what has become one of the largest and most exciting privately owned textile archives in the world.

The company’s most popular designs printed in the early 1900s showed naturalistic drawn English garden flowers, and this became part of the enduring GP & J Baker style.  George Percival Baker was a passionate horticulturist himself, becoming a well-known figure in the Royal Horticultural Society.

A number of GP & J Baker designs have been in production for 50 to 100 years, each re-issue adding another layer of history to their considerable charm. More recently some have been translated into woven fabrics, embroideries and wallpapers. Always progressive, but maintaining strong links with its past, GP & J Baker will long continue to decorate the future.

Great value dress shoes with nice detailing
Size: 11, Color: Black, Size: 11, Color: Black
I bought these black dress shoes for an occasional formal wear, and overall I’m quite pleased with them for the price. Fit & Comfort: The size is accurate (true to size for me). They fit well right out of the box with no major break-in period needed. The pointed toe is a bit more tapered/narrow than I usually prefer, but it’s stylish and not uncomfortably tight. The main downside is the thin padding/insoles — they’re a little firm underfoot. However, this is an easy fix; I’ve already swapped them for better aftermarket insoles and the comfort improved significantly. Quality & Appearance: The quality is solid for the money. The faux leather has a nice shine, and the crocodile-embossed pattern on the toe cap and sides looks sharp and premium in person (see my photos). Stitching is clean, the sole has decent tread for a dress shoe, and they feel sturdy. No loose threads or cheap-feeling construction. They’ve held up well so far after several wears. Value: Excellent bang for the buck. They look much more expensive than they cost and are a solid choice if you’re looking for stylish dress shoes without spending a fortune. Would recommend, especially if you plan to add your own insoles. Perfect for office, weddings, or events where you want to look polished.
