Maroon cloud, a powerful eight-part suite by celebrated flutist Nicole Mitchell, is a paean to the human gift of imagination and it's ability to foster resistance in our dystopian times. It features a drum-less quartet with Mitchell, cellist Tomeka Reid, pianist Aruán Ortiz and vocalist Fay Victor, recorded live at National Sawdust in Brooklyn as part of John Zorn's Stone Commissioning Series (March 29, 2017). In part, maroon cloud refers to the realm of creativity that we can enter simply by closing our eyes - an ability no one can take away from us. "Imagination, especially black imagination, is a really vital and undervalued resource, " the composer states. "It's very clear that we can't continue in the same direction that we've gone, but we need to return to where imagination and creativity come from, because if we don't have another vision then we can't make a different future. What makes us special as human beings is our ability to imagine things that don't even exist yet." Those future-seeking visions, for now, exist in what we might call the "cloud." "Maroon, " meanwhile, has a number of meanings: it ties into the theme of resistance by referencing the Maroons - those Africans who escaped slavery in the Caribbean and banded with indigenous people to form their own communities as early as the 16th century. Mitchell also cites the alternate meaning of "marooned, " i.e., people being abandoned to their fate. And then there's maroon, the rich dark color we might see with eyes closed, imagining social and political renewal. Nicole Mitchell, a longtime Chicagoan and professor of music at the University of California-Irvine, recently received a Champion of New Music Award from the American Composers Forum. She has been hailed for her "Afrofuturist vision" and credited as "the most inventive flutist in the past 30 years of jazz" by The New York Times. Her varied projects and leadership as the first woman to chair the AACM have widened the scope of improvised music

So lightweight, so smooth
I was looking for a retinol eye cream and decided to try this since I liked this brand before.
The texture is super lightweight and absorbs well, and my makeup doesn’t pill at all after using it.
Not sure yet about long-term wrinkle results, but it keeps my under-eye really hydrated and smooth. I’ve also been using it on my smile lines. lowkey excited to see more results!

Helped a bit with barrier, but it must be used very sparingly, and didn't improve fine lines for me.
I had mixed feelings about this eye cream. On paper, the combination of ingredients such as retinol, niacinamide, and centella sounded promising, especially for targeting texture and supporting the skin barrier. However, in practice, I found the formula to be a bit too strong for my sensitive eye area. I had to be very careful not to apply it too close to my eyes to avoid irritation. The cream is very thin and lightweight, and I found that it did absorb well without leaving too much of a greasy residue once applied.
After about two weeks of consistent use, I did notice some positive changes. The skin under my eyes felt slightly more elastic, and my skin barrier seemed to be benefiting overall, which I appreciated. That said, I didn’t see any real improvement in fine lines or firmness, which is one of the main reasons I reach for an eye cream with retinol in the first place.
The price point is definitely affordable, but it also feels like a case of getting what you pay for. While it’s not a bad product, it didn’t stand out enough for me to consider replacing my regular eye cream.
At the end of the day, skincare is a long game. What we do now often shows up years down the line, so I do think it’s worth investing in higher-quality formulas when possible. For me, this one was just okay: some mild benefits, but ultimately unremarkable.

Pleasantly surprised
I’m two jars in and love it. I do use Botox, retinol, a good face wash, wash moisturize twice daily, etc etc. I struggle with moisturizer because I’m prone to breakouts. Idk what it is about this one but my skin loves it. It feels refreshed and soft. Added bonus, my eyebrows and lashes have gotten longer and darker quick! Obviously we all respond differently to products but I’ll be keeping this in my rotation

A thick and rich cream that smooths on nicely!
So I jumped on the Korean skincare bandwagon and decided to purchase some of the DR MELAXIN Products to try! I read many good reviews and decided it was worth the money. This first product is the Dr Melaxin Calcium cemenrete calcium volume cream. It comes in a 1.76 ounce glass jar. On the label there is a lot of word descriptions so I will add a few: Ex volume firming, rebornic 10,000 ppm hydrolyzed elastin and collagen extract. I have photographed label for viewing. The directions indicate to "apply a small amount of cream onto your face especially around the under-eye area". I found the cream thick and rich and I used it in addition to another Dr Melaxin neck and face product so I concentrated on only neck and under eye area. It is neutral in scent and is very thick so it feels like it is absorbing nicely. I have been using it for about a month now and have definitely noticed some improvement in the neck area so i will continue to use and layer with other products. I do recommend this line as the ingredients seem effective so far!

Good product for face.
Great product. Works well with decreasing lines in face after half is used and with the serum. It does leave somewhat of a sticky (not grimy) texture which is uncomfortable if using at night.
