Description
BaseViperUnmasking EQ and harmonic saturation tuned to your low end. The perception of low frequency sound is highly vulnerable to masking, especially from energy nearby on the frequency spectrum. BaseViper works by identifying your peak frequency below 200Hz, and enhancing this with dynamic EQ cuts at frequencies of 12. 2%, combined with frequency specific harmonic saturation. Unmasking EQ and harmonic saturation tuned to your low end.
The perception of low-frequency sound is highly vulnerable to masking, especially from energy nearby on the frequency spectrum. BaseViper works by identifying your peak frequency below 200Hz, and enhancing this with dynamic EQ cuts at frequencies of ±12.2%, combined with frequency-specific harmonic saturation.
The effect can help to open up your mix and give the low end a more transparent sound.
Features
- Adjustable anti-masking EQ cut depth and Q factor (i.e. sharpness)
- Adjustable harmonic enrichment, adding energy at frequencies complementary to your fundamental low-end tone
- ~360ms frequency detection window, with look-ahead function to compensate for the backward-looking frequency measurement
- Fixed effect range of 20-200Hz
- Automatic make-up gain targeting neutral LUFS impact
How to use
- Use BaseViper on low-end tracks or on your master bus
- Adjust the three controls to taste, listening for changes in the clarity of low-end tones and transients
- Listen for potential boominess in your kick if using aggressive anti-masking settings
- Click the display for gain-matched A/B test (bypass mode continues to use CPU in order to keep the plugin calibrated to the incoming signal)
- Double-click a dial to reset to its default value, or hold <CTRL>/<CMD> to fine-tune
Technical notes
- Available in VST3, AAX & AU formats for Windows and MacOS
- Requires a compatible Digital Audio Workstation or other plugin host
- ~190ms latency, depending on project sample rate
- Supports common sample rates from 44.1 to 384kHz
- Plugin is designed for common audio signals such as music and voice; may not react meaningfully to artificial test signals such as chirps, impulses and bursts
