For two decades now, Vincent H.L has been playing a crucial part in peddling the scuzzier side of the Auckland sound. Whether it be the blues holler of Whipping Cats, drumming in TeenWolf, playing as one third of unsung garage party trio Hang Loose, or smashing keys in honky tonk supergroup Magic Factory, Vincent has had a finger in most musical pies worth tasting. Golden Sun, the second Vincent H.L solo album, finds our chum in finest songwriting form, effortlessly evoking Loser era Beck or early K Records releases, but soaked in the Aotearoa sun.
