Protecting sensitive data is more important than ever. The SecureDrive 5 TB Portable Hard Drive – External delivers enterprise-grade security in a portable form factor, blending hardware encryption with wireless authentication to help you prevent data leaks wherever you work. Built around a hardware-encrypted architecture and paired with a mobile device, SecureDrive BT ensures that access to your files is tightly controlled, never exposed by weak passwords or unsecured connections. With 5 terabytes of storage, this external drive is designed to handle large backups, media libraries, and sensitive documents while keeping them shielded from unauthorized eyes. The device is FIPS-validated, a mark of rigorous government-grade security standards, giving you confidence that encryption and data protection meet strict industry requirements. Whether you’re a contractor, executive, IT professional, or simply security-conscious, SecureDrive BT brings peace of mind to data mobility by encrypting data at rest and granting access only through your trusted mobile device. It’s a portable security solution that travels with you, ready to safeguard your data in transit and at rest.

  • Hardware encryption with FIPS-validated security ensures data protection at rest, safeguarding confidential files from unauthorized access even if the drive is lost or stolen. This means all data stored on the 5 TB SecureDrive BT is encrypted by design, with access restricted to authenticated users via the paired mobile device. The combination of hardware-based encryption and FIPS validation helps you meet governance, risk, and compliance requirements without sacrificing performance or convenience. You can trust that sensitive information—legal documents, financial records, client data, and proprietary files—remains shielded behind robust, standards-based protections. This is security you can rely on in travel, in the field, or at the office.
  • Wireless authentication via a mobile device creates a passwordless access model that minimizes the risk of credential theft. By pairing your smartphone or tablet with the SecureDrive BT, you unlock the drive through a secure, in-app interaction rather than typing passwords or exposing PINs. This method not only enhances security but also simplifies day-to-day usage for busy professionals who need fast, reliable access to their files. The mobile-device pairing acts as a strong factor in multi-factor security when combined with device-level protection, reducing the chance of unauthorized access even if the drive is misplaced. The result is a streamlined workflow where security and convenience go hand in hand.
  • Remote wipe capability gives you control over data even when the device isn’t physically within reach. If your SecureDrive BT is lost, stolen, or compromised, you can initiate a remote wipe from anywhere with internet connectivity, ensuring that dormant data cannot be accessed by unauthorized parties. This capability is essential for protecting highly sensitive information, meeting incident response timelines, and maintaining business continuity. The remote wipe feature can be paired with your account controls to enforce data removal across all securely stored files, helping you minimize risk and meet regulatory expectations in a fast-moving security landscape.
  • Massive 5 TB capacity supports a wide range of use cases—from full-device backups to multimedia libraries and large-scale project archives. This generous storage footprint lets you consolidate data without compromising security, letting you store high-resolution photos, 4K video, design assets, and extensive databases in a single portable unit. The hardware encryption works in tandem with the large capacity to provide a secure, scalable solution for professionals who require both substantial space and air-tight protection. The combination of abundant storage and robust security is ideal for agencies, studios, and field teams that need to transport sizable working sets while keeping them locked down when not in use.
  • Portable, external design with a focus on reliability and ease of use. The SecureDrive BT is built to travel with you—compact enough to fit in a bag, yet rugged enough to withstand routine travel and everyday work environments. It is designed for plug-and-play setup with minimal friction, so you can focus on your work rather than configuration. The device’s security architecture operates transparently, allowing you to access your files quickly when you’re connected to a trusted mobile device, while remaining inaccessible to anyone else without the paired device. This balance of portability and protection makes SecureDrive BT an attractive choice for remote work, field assignments, and on-the-go data protection.

How to install SecureDrive 5 TB Portable Hard Drive

Setting up SecureDrive BT is designed to be straightforward and secure, combining a simple hardware setup with a guided mobile app workflow. Follow these steps to get started:

  • Unpack and verify components. Ensure you have the SecureDrive BT unit and any included accessories, such as a charging cable if provided, and your mobile device for pairing.
  • Charge or power the drive as required. If the unit ships with a battery or needs initial power, connect it according to the manufacturer’s instructions, ensuring the device is ready for pairing.
  • Install the SecureDrive app on your mobile device. Download the official SecureDrive application from your device’s app store to enable Bluetooth pairing, encryption initialization, and on-device access controls.
  • Pair your mobile device with the SecureDrive BT. Open the app, follow the on-screen prompts to enable Bluetooth, and complete the pairing process. This pairing establishes the trusted channel that unlocks access to the drive’s encrypted data.
  • Initialize encryption and set access controls. Within the app, initialize hardware encryption and configure access parameters, such as user accounts, PINs or biometrics if supported, and any backup or auto-lock settings. Save your configuration securely.
  • Mount and start using. After pairing and initialization, mount the drive on your computer as you would with any external drive. Transfer files through the standard file manager, keeping in mind that access requires the paired mobile device for unlocking.
  • Enable additional security features. In the app, enable remote wipe, device lock timers, and automatic re-locking to ensure ongoing protection in case the device is not in your possession.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is the SecureDrive BT? The SecureDrive BT is a hardware-encrypted external portable hard drive that uses wireless authentication via a mobile device (Bluetooth) to unlock access. It is designed to protect data at rest with FIPS-validated security while offering convenient, credential-free access through your trusted mobile device.
  • How does wireless authentication work? Access is granted when your paired mobile device communicates with the drive through a secure app. This eliminates the need to enter passwords directly on the drive and provides an additional layer of protection by tying access to a device you control. You can revoke access or change pairing settings through the app as needed.
  • Can I use SecureDrive BT with my computer without the mobile app? Access to data is managed via the paired mobile device and the app. While you may mount the drive for data transfer after unlocking, the app and pairing are central to initial access and ongoing security. Always ensure the app is installed and your device is authenticated before accessing encrypted files.
  • Is the drive compatible with multiple operating systems? As an external portable drive with hardware encryption, SecureDrive BT is designed to work across common platforms through standard drive mounting once unlocked. The protective layer operates at the hardware level, while the app facilitates secure unlocking via Bluetooth. Specific OS support may vary by firmware version; consult product documentation for exact compatibility details.
  • How does remote wipe work? Remote wipe allows you to erase data on the drive from anywhere with internet access if the device is compromised or lost. Initiating a wipe removes encrypted data and detaches any authentication credentials, protecting sensitive information. Ensure you have a current backup strategy, as remote wipe is a last-resort security measure.
  • What are best practices for using SecureDrive BT? Keep the mobile app up to date, maintain secure pairing only with trusted devices, enable auto-lock and remote wipe policies, regularly back up important data, and monitor device status through the app to detect any unauthorized pairing or activity.

Mesmerizing; shows the butterfly effect in action
Format: Paperback
Charles Mann’s “1493” is about globalization and the Homogenocene epoch. Unlike the plenitude of other recent books about globalization, however, “1493” is about biological globalization rather than economic globalization. The book traces the results of the Columbian Exchange, with chapters devoted to tobacco, the earthworm, malaria, silver, potatoes and sweet potatoes, guano and rubber. The book is in four parts, and is written in an accessible, non-academic style. I found the first three parts of the book, which cover the impact of the Columbian Exchange on the Atlantic, the Pacific and Europe, respectively, to be captivating. These parts of the book demonstrated the fascinating interconnectedness of all things in a globalized society (in other words the “butterfly effect”) – for example, how transporting the sweet potato to Western China led to population migrations from Eastern to Western China, deforestation and overflowing of the Yellow River. The general result of such biological globalization is the creation of the Homogenocene epoch, a term which Mann uses to describe the biological homogenization that has replaced biological diversity since the time of Columbus. In the first three parts of the book, Mann demonstrates how history, biology and chemistry are all interrelated, and how today’s world continues to be influenced by the Columbian Exchange. I found the last part of the book to be less impressive than the first three parts. Part Four is called “Africa in the World,” but confusingly it is about South America, not Africa. Parts of it read more like travel writing than history. Still, the book deserves five stars for the first three thrilling parts, which successfully trace the mesmerizing history of various everyday biological substances.

There were periods I was on the edge of my seat. There were times I just wanted to the book to end.
Format: Paperback
I recently started reading at 40 years old to make up for a lot of wasted time and missed education. This is a very informative read, but that said, I had a hard time staying focused sometimes. He gets into a lot of the science pertaining to plagues, epidemics etc which is interesting and I am reluctant to list science as a con as I did learn, but frequently found myself scrolling through several pages just to get the main idea behind the historical part. There were periods that I was on the edge of my seat and there were times I just wanted to the book to end. 1491 was similar. Both useful books, but a bit challenging to follow along especially if you are only reading small amounts at at time like on break at work etc. It jumps around from S. America, N America and China all through the book. I would have preferred that each region be separated. I get that he had his reasons. I am glad I read both books, but I probably should have gone with more of an overview vs the more in-depth content in this. I do not regret reading both books however, and recommend if you already have a good knowledge of this subject and are just trying to learn a little more. I found the information about the slave trade, the most interesting and wasn't aware that the majority of slaves shipped over from Africa went to Mesoamerica and the Caribbean. I also did not realize that plague and sickness really enabled use of African slaves as they were not prone to malaria like the Europeans. There is also some good info about ancient China and also sliver and mercury mining with South American Indians which made the book worth it for me.

If you liked 1491, you'll like 1493
Format: Hardcover
I originally read the first edition of 1491, which I loved. So that's why I ordered 1493. At about the same time 1493 arrived, I found out there was a new, revised version of 1491, which my husband bought from another source. So I re-read it at the same time I read 1493 for the first time. The reason I mention this is that there are some similarities between the revised version of 1491 and the newer book, 1493 - actually some repeated material. That's ok, as the author is taking the premise of 1491 another step further. Essentially, 1491 focuses on what new studies show was really going on in the Western Hemisphere before Columbus' arrival, where native peoples were far more numerous and had more advanced cultures than Europeans previously thought possible. In 1493, Charles Mann shows not only how Columbus and Europeans changed the New World, but how the "Columbian exchange" wrought great changes in the other direction as well. And he pulls in the further exchanges with Asia, to show the trans-global linkages of the phenomenon. So, some of his exposition gets a little repetitious, but overall he's an engaging writer, and for those of us who love the history of cultural exchanges and first contact, these books are mandatory reading!

Truly worth every penny. DS2r?
Format: Hardcover
Truly incredible documentation of the thoughtful work of a handful of artists. I'm hoping that by supporting this book we may inch ourselves closer to a Dead Space 2 remake lead by Motive studio. This book is a must for fans or the game and horror in general. Well made, good quality images, lore drops, developer letters. Its fantastic!
