By:This collection of 80 dramatic firsthand writings by Frederick Douglass, Ida B. Wells, and others brings to life the struggle for racial justice from the Civil War to World War I
A vital resource for the teaching of the history of race in America that traces the ascendency of white supremacy after Reconstruction—and the outspoken resistance to it led by Black Americans and their allies
W.E.B. Du Bois famously identified "the problem of the color-line" as the defining issue in American life. The powerful writings gathered here reveal the many ways Americans, Black and white, fought against white supremacist efforts to police the color line, envisioning a better America in the face of disenfranchisement, segregation, and widespread lynching, mob violence, and police brutality.
Jim Crow: Voices from a Century of Struggle, Part One brings together speeches, pamphlets, newspaper and magazine articles, public testimony, judicial opinions, letters, and poems and song lyrics—more than eighty essential texts in all—from the end of Reconstruction in 1876 to the bloody “Red Summer” of 1919.
The volume includes writing by both famous and lesser known individuals, including:
- Ida B. Wells on the scourge of lynching
- Richard T. Greener’s scathing critique of America’s “White Problem"
- Charles Chesnutt on the nullification of the Fifteenth Amendment
- Booker T. Washington’s historic Atlanta address
- John Marshall Harlan’s eloquent and prophetic dissent in Plessy v. Ferguson;
- Mary Church Terrell on segregation in the nation’s capital and the convict lease system
- William Monroe Trotter’s dramatic White House confrontation with Woodrow Wilson
- Jeanette Carter’s tribute to the men and women who fought back against white mobs in 1919
The volume also presents revealing examples of white supremacist advocacy by Nathaniel Shaler and Benjamin Tillman; testimony about the “Exoduster” migration to Kansas in the 1870s; celebrations of pathbreaking Black musicians and stage performers; writing about the Wilmington insurrection of 1898, the founding of the NAACP, and Black soldiers in World War I; and contrasting editorials from the Black and white press on prizefighter Jack Johnson and the outlaw Robert Charles.
As the teaching of our nation’s history, especially the history of race in America, becomes increasingly contested, this book will serve as a vital resource, a crucial reminder of where we’ve been, how far we’ve come, and how long the road ahead remains.

Defective toy and inconsistent quality.
Size: X-Large, Color: Raccoon, Size: X-Large, Color: Raccoon
My initial review was 5 stars based on my experience with a previous order (blue raccoon) and the fact my puppy was immediately interested in it. However, I did not give it to her to play with until this past Friday (May 21, 2026) because she had the first one I bought. In a matter of 2 days the seam on the back and at the base of the head unraveled and all of the stuffing was scattered all over the room. I thought I’d found some good, high quality, toys for her but apparently this one was defective because the first one had had a lot of use and I’d still in decent shape. This is too much money to pay for a dog toy that only lasts a day or two so be advised they aren’t all good.

Bigger, louder, crinklier, softer, than expected!
Size: X-Large, Color: Rabbit
My dog was gifted a collection of used toys and he really likes a very long stuffed pig which, unfortunately, another dog that is a destructive chewer, totally destroyed. I decided to break down and buy him another long stuffed toy today and since he's always blissfully watching rabbits in the yard and neighborhood I chose the rabbit version. This thing is huge which is great for him- he's 62 lbs and 7 months old and only half grown. He loves it, it has multiple LOUD squeakers, lots of crinkly spots, and fun ears/legs to grab hold off. He's a big fan and it's made with K9 Tuff Guard which LASTS. Super soft and easy to wash.
Update after 2 months- easy to wash and looks new after a washing. very durable so far, standing up to indoor and outdoor use. He is not a destructive chewer but whips them around, tramples on them, steps on them while running top speed and chomps on the annoying squeaker for hours. one squeaker has a hole and its tune is now slightly muted (thank god)

Puppy loves! Supposed to be part of a set though??
Style: Coconut Tree
Bought this simply because we named our puppy Coco and was on a roll ordering her toys… she ended up absolutely LOVING this tiny palm tree!! Maybe because of the size and she was able to really handle it, she takes it everywhere with her and loves the squeaker. HOWEVER, the item is a lot smaller than I expected when ordering for almost $10 and the plastic packaging it came in says “not intended for individual sale, part of a pack” so I would not purchase from this seller again. I will maybe try to find this included with the intended set of toys.

It IS very small
Style: Coco-Nut, Style: Coco-Nut
I did not read the description and just saw 7.5 inches which usually is a pretty good sized toy BUT this is 7.5 inches circumference. They did state this in the product description but not a usual measurement so I missed it. Just wanted others to know what they are getting for $9.

It is way smaller than advertised and is maybe worth $0.50 cents. Only appropriate for toy breeds who do NOT chew.
